Find Devices That Fit Your Needs
Renewed Phones Have No Warranty — True or False?
"Renewed phones have no warranty." It's the line that keeps people paying full price for a new phone — and it's half true. The half that's wrong is the expensive half.
Here's the honest version, the way we say it on our own warranty page: renewed devices do not come with a manufacturer warranty. Every renewed device purchased from Cellmigo instead includes a 1-year Cellmigo seller warranty covering defects, plus 90 days to return for any reason.
The half that's true: no manufacturer warranty
When a phone is renewed, the manufacturer's warranty is gone — it belonged to the first owner, and it doesn't transfer. That's the part the myth gets right, and it's worth saying plainly rather than burying it in small print. If anyone selling you a renewed phone promises you the manufacturer's warranty, ask them to show it in writing.
The half that's wrong: no warranty at all
At Cellmigo, the warranty on a renewed device is ours, not the maker's — and it's stated on every listing. Here's the comparison:
| Coverage | Manufacturer warranty (new phone) | Cellmigo seller warranty (renewed phone) |
|---|---|---|
| Who provides it | The manufacturer | Cellmigo |
| Length | Typically 1 year | 1 year |
| What it covers | Defects in materials and workmanship | Defects in materials and workmanship under normal use |
| If a defect appears | Manufacturer repairs or replaces | Cellmigo repairs or replaces, at our discretion |
| Return window | Usually 14–30 days | 90 days, for any reason |
| What's not covered | Accidental damage, misuse | Accidental or physical damage, water damage, misuse, tampering. For Parts items are final sale and not covered. |
The return window is the part people overlook: 90 days on a renewed device, versus 30 days on a new one. That's three months to live with the phone and be sure it's right.
What "renewed" means at Cellmigo
A warranty is only as good as the phone it's attached to, so every renewed device goes through a multi-point inspection and passes Cellmigo QC testing before it's listed. Battery health is guaranteed at 80% or higher. And the condition grade is stated on every listing, in plain words:
| Grade | What it means |
|---|---|
| Like New (9/10) | Looks and feels almost brand new; screen and body free from noticeable scratches. |
| Clean Screen (8/10) | Excellent working order with a clean, clear display; may show minor wear on the frame or back. |
| Pre-Loved (6/10) | Moderate visible wear, still in great working condition; every feature tested and guaranteed to work. |
| Smart Saver (4/10) | Noticeable wear but reliable; fully tested and performance-approved; the budget pick. |
| For Parts | Sold as-is for parts or repair. Final sale — no warranty, no returns. |
Before you buy any renewed phone, check these four things
Whether you buy from Cellmigo or anywhere else, this is the checklist that matters:
1. Is a warranty included, and whose? A seller warranty from the shop you're buying from is the real thing — a vague "warranty included" with no provider named is not.
2. How long can you return it? 90 days is generous. 14 days with a restocking fee is not.
3. What's the battery health? Ask for a number, not a promise. Ours is guaranteed at 80% or higher.
4. Is the grade stated plainly? If a listing won't tell you the condition in words — Like New, Clean Screen, Pre-Loved, Smart Saver — you're guessing, not buying.
