Step-by-Step Instructions to Relock the Bootloader on Google Pixel (Android 14)

However, it also comes with risks. Unlocking the bootloader can void warranties, reduce device security, and make the phone vulnerable to malicious software. Relocking the bootloader on a Google Pixel device running Android 14 can help restore the device's warranty and security, but it will wipe all data on the phone. Before proceeding, ensure you have backed up all important data. Follow these steps to relock the bootloader:


1. What is a Bootloader?

A bootloader is a program that loads the operating system when a device is powered on. It determines what should run, and in what order, such as the Android operating system or a recovery image. On most devices, the bootloader is locked by default to prevent unauthorized changes, ensuring security and stability.

2. Pros and Cons of Bootloader Being Unlocked

Pros:

  • Customization: Allows installation of custom ROMs (alternative operating systems), themes, or kernels.
  • Root Access: Grants administrative control over the device, enabling deep system modifications.

Prerequisites:

  1. Android SDK & Fastboot: Ensure you have adb and fastboot installed on your computer.
    • You can download the Android SDK Platform Tools here.
  2. USB Cable: Use the original or a high-quality USB cable to connect your phone to the computer.
  3. Enable Developer Options and USB Debugging:
    • On your Pixel, go to Settings > About Phone > tap on Build Number 7 times to unlock Developer Options.
    • Go to Settings > System > Developer Options > toggle on USB Debugging.

Step 1: Boot into Fastboot Mode

  1. Power off your Pixel device.
  2. Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously until the Fastboot menu appears. You should see the Android robot with the "Start" text.

Step 2: Connect the Phone to Your Computer

  1. Use a USB cable to connect your phone to your computer.

Step 3: Relock the Bootloader

  1. To relock the bootloader, type the following command: " fastboot flashing lock "

Step 4: Reboot the Device

  1. Once the bootloader is locked, reboot your device by typing: " fastboot reboot "

Step 5: Set Up Your Device
